Occupational & Environmental Medicine Program

TRAINING & ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

The program offers the degree of Master of Public Health in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and is designed to provide trainees with a sound didactic background in the principles of occupational and environmental medicine while simultaneously providing adequate flexibility for residents to pursue studies in epidemiology, toxicology, biostatistics, health services administration and other clinical specialties.

The program is a joint venture between the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine and the Department of Medicine in the School of Medicine.

Students may elect to earn the degree in conjunction with a residency program or without a residency program.

The program offers a two-year residency/fellowship in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, leading to Occupational Medicine Board eligibility. Ideal candidates for this fellowship have completed training in a primary clinical specialty and are interested in applying their clinical knowledge in a way that can prevent illness and injury.

United States Army applicants may perform their residency through the Madigan Army Hospital's Preventative Medicine residency program. Students accomplish MPH coursework in one year, spending their second in residency. Once admission is gained through Madigan, students may apply to our MPH program. For more information on this option, please visit special application instructions.

To earn a degree without a residency program, please see further information in our program.
