Our
research mission is to promote occupational and environmental medicine
as a discipline by scientifically and objectively creating new knowledge
about complex workplace and community exposures. We focus on policy-relevant
research, including the relationship between exposure and disease,
the cost versus benefit of new standards, and clinical interventions.
We serve as an objective and unique source of information for policy
makers, regulatory bodies, and primary care givers.
Our
Program continues its important research in many areas such as pediatric
environmental health, former Hanford workers, high priority health
issues in foreign countries, and chemically related illnesses caused
by exposure to occupational and environmental chemicals. We have
been awarded research funding from agencies such as the National
Institute of Health (NIH), US Department of Energy (DOE), Association
of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC) the Agency for
Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), and the Center for
Disease Control (CDC).
