The Occupational and
Environmental Medicine Residency/Fellowship Program is a two-year training
program which seeks to train physicians for leadership roles in the
practice and teaching of clinical occupational and environmental medicine
and occupational health research. The program is a joint venture between
the Departments of Medicine and Environmental Health at the University of Washington. Course work for completion
of the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree is designed into the academic
curriculum of the two-year program.
Once you have gone
through our application process and you are accepted into the
Residency/Fellowship program, you will also need to apply to the University
of Washington Graduate School. Please click the link for information
and requirements. Note - if you are a graduate from a foreign medical
school, a passing TOEFL score is required within the past two years.
Basic requirements for the Occupational and
Environmental Medicine Residency/Fellowship Program include:
- Graduation from a
Class A medical school (United States, Canada or equivalent)
- Completion of one
year of approved internship, three years training in primary care
specialty is encouraged.
- Eligibility for a Full Washington State Medical License
The fellowship
program is approved by the Liaison Committee for Graduate Medical Education
and is recognized by the American College for Preventative Medicine for
specialty training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Fellows who
successfully complete the program will have satisfied the didactic and
practicum years for board-eligibility in Occupational Medicine.
All applications must
be accompanied by four letters of recommendation, one of which must be
written by either the department chair, the head of the applicant's
residency program, or the applicants internship director. After
applications are received, the admissions committee will review them and
invite qualified applicants for on-campus interviews. Interviews are
strongly encouraged for all invited applicants. Deadline for

Applicants who wish to be considered for joint training in
Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine must be board
eligible in internal medicine and should request applications from both
programs. A letter indicating application to both programs is being made
