The
Program is a joint venture between the Department of Environmental
and Occupational Health Sciences in the
School of Public Health and Community Medicine and the Department
of Medicine in the
School of Medicine. The Program's clinical activities are conducted
at Harborview Medical Center, one of the University of Washington's
two main teaching hospitals.
The
School of Medicine was founded in 1945 and currently consists of
a full-time faculty of 1,190 and a clinical faculty of 3,060. Established
as a separate academic unit at the University of Washington in 1970,
the School of Public Health and Community Medicine is one of twenty-four
schools of public health accredited by the Council on Education
for Public Health. Departments within the School include Biostatistics,
Environmental Health, Health Services and Pathobiology.
Founded
in 1861, The University of Washington is the oldest state-assisted
institution of higher education on the Pacific coast. The 680-acre
campus is located on the shores of Lake Washington and Lake Union
in the city of Seattle. The University is one of the leading research
universities in the nation and is recognized for the quality of
its research and graduate programs. For several years the University
has ranked among the top five institutions nationwide in the amount
of competitive grant and contract support received from federal
sources.
