On Thursday, September 17, community members, the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity and the University of Washington President’s Minority Community Advisory Committee (UWMCAC) celebrated the appointment of the first African American Chief in University of Washington (UW) history. John N. Vinson, who holds a Ph.D., in public administration from Western Michigan University, was appointed as chief of police at the UW on February 23, 2009.
The celebration took place at the Northwest African American Museum and the guest included the Vice President for Minority Affairs and Diversity, Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange, Councilmember, Larry Gossett, the MCAC and various other community leaders. Click here to see photos.

It is exciting to know that the OMA&D is still doing its thing! The program helped me tremendously when I was a student in the 1970′s in making the transition from small town USA to a large metropolitan campus. During my career in architecture, I am proud to have had the University as one of my clients. Read more
