The assisted autobiography of Samuel E. Kelly, written with UW History Professor Quintard Taylor, was published this month by University of Washington Press and featured in a recent issue of University Week. The book, titled Dr. Sam: Soldier, Educator, Advocate, Friend tells the life story of the man who created and was the first to run the UW Office of Minority Affairs. Read the article here.

 

Sylvester Cann secured the first presidential autograph on an iPad when he met President Barack Obama at a campaign rally at the UW on Oct. 21. The story has received national and local media attention. The video coverage that ran on King-5 TV in Seattle is available here. Read more

The University of Washington State GEAR UP Project (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) has joined the UW Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMA&D) effective Sept. 1, Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity Sheila Edwards Lange announced.
