Save the date for the Samuel E. Kelly Distinguished Faculty Lecture, Wednesday, April 21, 2010.

The Samuel E. Kelly Distinguished Faculty Lecture honors Dr. Kelly's vision of equity in society and contributes to our knowledge of diversity and its dimensions: race, ethnicity, class, gender, religion, sexual orientation, nation and nationhood, disability, and age. Dr. Kelly, who founded the Office of Minority Affairs in 1970 and served as its first Vice President, created a vision of how the University could and should meet its obligation to students regardless of color or economic status. He spearheaded new models of admissions, counseling, and academic support that have been emulated across the nations.

Publicity and Websites

A large portion of public relations is communication, management of information, and branding. By successfully executing events, and positioning our VP and the department, CPR is able to foster relationships with the community, alumni, and on campus. CPR is responsible for maintaining the main Diversity page for the UW as well as the content of the departmental website. This past year we have added several important components to the Diversity site, including a suite of pages for the House of Knowledge, a Tribal Relations section, and frequent news updates posted on the Diversity Spotlight located on the home page. We also are responsible for keeping the UW’s Diversity calendar current.

Over the past fiscal year we have noticed definite growth in the numbers of total visits to both web pages per month as well as a larger international audience with a greater number of visits from different countries. For the Diversity site we saw an average of 3,221 visits to the site from 89 countries per month. The least number of visits occurred in August of 2008 with 1,870 visits while the most occurred during April of 2009 with 4,402 visits. The “resources” page as well as the diversity calendar were the most popular pages visited throughout the year. For the departmental website we saw an average of 1,741 visits to the site from 24 countries per month. The least number of visits occurred in July of 2009 with 1,157 visits while the most occurred during May of 2009 with 2,618 visitors. The most frequently visited pages on the departmental site were the “services” page and the “about” page.

CPR photographs specific events. Images are used for promotional materials such as web site, print, electronic publications and communications. Finally, the CPR team performs in house design services for a variety of programs, websites, and events. Primarily CPR designs our own event invitations, programs, and other publications, though outside designers have been contracted for large projects. We also contribute our design services and expertise on marketing and branding to other units within the department for specific needs.
