On September 26, 2008 the University of Washington Educational Outreach Yakima Valley Community Partnership in conjunction with the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity coordinated the first annual “UW in a Day” at Toppenish Middle School in Eastern Washington. “UW in a Day” highlighted the University of Washington’s continued commitment to provide academic information and access to qualified students from across the State of Washington. “We are eternally grateful for their commitment to providing amazing resources and opportunities for our underserved community”, said Steve Myers, Toppenish School District Superintendent.
Students from Yakima GEAR-UP, The Tribal School, Educational Talent Search and the surrounding community participated in the informational and hands on event. More than 30 UW staff, faculty, recruitment officers, academic advisors, and diversity staff were available to answer questions about academics, college preparation, financial aid, student life and any other questions that the attendees had.
