This category of promising practices was recently added to the website as a result of feedback from practitioners at the Early Outreach Symposium at WSU Tri-Cities on January 22, 2010. A major focus of GEAR UP programs is professional development to help school staff members gain knowledge and expertise to meet higher standards of excellence. High expectations of teachers for their students to master rigorous coursework and go on to higher education is a major factor in increasing the number of students, particularly from low-income families, who enroll in post-secondary education. As educational expectations increase for student performance, it is crucial that professional development programs are provided to help teachers meet higher expectations of learning and performance.
Program administrators and staff are invited to use this forum to share programs that work with other early outreach practitioners.
