2011 OMAD ACS Spring Recognition Reception

The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity Academic Counseling Services (Educational Opportunity Program, Trio Student Support Services and College Assistance Migrant Program) hosted its Annual Spring Recognition Reception on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the University of Washington. This annual event recognizes outstanding undergraduate students’ academic achievements.

Students received certificates from Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange, Vice President and Vice Provost, Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity. Advisors presented twenty six student Merit Awards and three High Scholar Awards. Carol Bailey, President of the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Educational Opportunity Program, presented the Honor Award.The recipients of the inaugural Faculty and Staff Awards were Dr. Rachel R. Chapman, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Global Health and Lisa A. Whitehead, Counselor, Office of Student Financial Aid.

The event culminated with the annual presentation of the George Newsome Humanitarian Memorial Scholarship. George was a beloved academic advisor and student counselor in the Educational Opportunity Program and a fierce advocate for students in higher education.
