EOP George Newsome Humanitarian Memorial Scholarship

The George Newsome Humanitarian Memorial Scholarship was established in honor and memory of George Newsome (1950-1998). He was a dedicated and inspirational advisor in the Educational Opportunity Program for over nine years. George was a passionate student advocate who influenced the lives of many students and motivated them to reach their highest potential. In 1997, his colleagues across campus, the Association of Professional Advisors and Counselors selected him as Advisor of the Year.

Eligibility for the GNHMS:

  • UW grade point average of 2.5 or above
  • Enrolled Full-time student at the UW Seattle Campus (12 to 18 credits)
  • Completed 75 UW credits or a minimum of 24 UW credits for a transfer student. (End of Winter Quarter 2014)
  • Utilized the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), TRIO Student Support Services, College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), and/or Champion’s services

Completed application must be received by 5 pm, April 21, 2014. The recipient of the scholarship will be notified by May 7, 2014.  All information will be kept confidential.

The George Newsome Humanitarian Memorial Scholarship recipient must attend the EOP Celebration Ceremony that honors OMA/D students for their outstanding academic achievements. It will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 5:00pm in the Husky Union Building,
