Job Description

Student Media Support Tech with the Instructional Media department at the Foster School of Business. This position will provide Panopto, video recording, and Canvas support to the Foster School of Business. The position is focused on providing over the phone, in person, and walk in support to users in classrooms, computer labs, meeting spaces, event spaces, public spaces, and our offices.


The position will provide monitoring and technical support to panopto recordings. The Foster School of Business offers a high-volume of in-class video recordings that include faculty lectures, guest speakers, student presentations, and special events. In this role, the candidate is expected to monitor recordings to ensure that quality standards for video and audio are met. Furthermore, the role requires a high-level of attention to details to ensure that tasks related to video recordings are completed. These tasks include entering data about the recordings into spreadsheets, correct labeling of class recordings, performing basic video editing, generating audio podcasts, updating information within video libraries, uploading video files and delivering final links to faculty and staff, and archiving video files.


Other responsibilities include occasional work as a camera operator for video production events, set up and tear down of video equipment, and basic video editing using non-linear editing systems (adobe creative suite). Additionally, our team is frequently the go to place for faculty to get help troubleshooting technical issues related to instructional learning tools such as MS Office applications, how to embed videos on PowerPoint presentations, canvas-related questions, converting files to various formats, and managing digital media assets.

We are looking for reliable and responsible candidates who poses a combination of practical experience with customer service and technical abilities. We have a total of four openings, but are only bringing two new members during the summer. A second round of interviews and search for candidates will take place early in the fall with the intent to start them by early Fall.

Job Duties:
Customer Service

Phone, email, in person support

Record keeping through a ticketing system
Checking out and checking in equipment

Assisting instructors and staff with recording equipment, Panopto, and Canvas
Setting up and operating audio/video recording equipment for classes and events
Remote monitoring of recordings

Video and Audio editing
Cleaning and maintaining technology
And other duties as assigned
Additional Considerations:

The office we work out of is open from early morning to late night most days of the week. There are additional hours on the weekend, work schedules frequently span many of those segments.

We exclusively support Foster School of Business classes, events, and activities so familiarity with the School of Business is a plus.

This position is for UW undergraduate students only and is part time. Business casual and business dress attire is required at times.
You can expect to be scheduled for a minimum of 10 and up to 19.5 hours a week during the regular quarters. There is a limited opportunity for hours during summer quarter.


Staring compensation is $15.00 per hour with the potential for quarterly, and semi-annual raises contingent upon performance.
