Our Global Ocean: The Ultimate Planetary Life Support System—New Approaches to an Old Ocean
UW Professor John Delaney leads the team, funded by the National Science Foundation, that is building an innovative new “undersea observatory” in the Northeast Pacific, made up of 575 miles of cables equipped with instruments and cameras.
Join Prof. Delaney for Our Global Ocean: The Ultimate Planetary Life Support System—New Approaches to an Old Ocean, a five-part lecture series presented by the UWAA and Seattle Arts & Lectures. The spring lectures explore how oceans dominate planetary ecosystems, on Earth and probably beyond. In the concluding lecture in November, Delaney will share results from the VISIONS ’14 expedition to complete construction of this undersea observatory, a novel offshore laboratory the size of a tectonic plate.
