Tacoma College Depot is HIRING

Tacoma College Depot 2018 is hiring College Navigator Interns:
The Tacoma College Depot, now in its fourth year, was created by a partnership between Tacoma Public Schools, Graduate Tacoma, and Tacoma Public Library, as a summer workshop series for TPS 9-12 graders and parents to prepare them for success in college access and enrollment. This summer, Tacoma College Depot has teamed up with Tacoma Public Schools Summer Bridge Program, which prepares 9-12th grade students with skills for success in advanced, “College in the High School” programs. The Tacoma College Depot will be a fully-packed day of interactive college and career workshops for approximately 200 high school students on the Tacoma Community College Campus, on Thursday, August 30th, from 8:30-2:30 pm. We are hiring interns to serve as College Depot Navigators to support students with the college search, application, financial aid, and scholarship process, and help them build skills for success in both high school and college and career.
Job Description: College Depot Navigators will help with planning group activities, setting up and taking down of College Depot workshops, attending workshops and college tours with students, meeting with students in small groups, and providing individualized help in college and career exploration, writing the personal statement for college and scholarship applications, accessing resources for college applications and funding, and answering questions as they arise. In their role, Navigators will:
• Attend Training – Week of August 20-24, TBD
• Meet with their designated high school team for a pre-workshop meeting – Wednesday, August 29
• Attend and lead small groups during College Depot Day at TCC – Thursday, August 30
• Attend College Tours with the College Depot/Summer Bridge students and attend final recognition ceremony – Friday, August 31
• Provide follow-up with their students over the course of planned events during the 2018-19 school year – TBD
Requirements: College Navigators must be a high school graduate and a current student of a 2-year, 4-year, or Technical College or be admitted and attending college in the fall of 2018. You must also have a strong desire to support Tacoma High School students with the college and career search and application process, and have strong communication and mentoring skills. You must be available to attend all trainings and workshops with students.
Internship Time Commitment and Stipend: This internship will include a total of 23 hours of contracted time. A stipend of $345.00 will be awarded with this internship, as well as a certificate of service.
