Taro Roots Foundation Mentoring Program

The Taro Roots Foundation is looking for UW students to participate a mentoring/seminar program for youth ages 10-14 during summer quarter 2011. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a future college-credited practicum which provides options such as service learning (i.e. tutoring the youth of Taro Roots, serving as a volunteer in Taro Roots’ summer clinics/camps, etc.) and/or take a university course with a sports-related focus. AES 499 Credit Available (enrollment is limited).

What is the Taro Roots Foundation?

The Taro Roots Foundation is a non-profit organization that believes that the lessons gained through sports and education will build youth leadership, foster growth, and increase self-confidence. The Taro Roots Foundation’s specific mission lies in providing tools for the quality living of all youth through athletic training and education based workshops. The Taro Roots Foundation’s greater mission is to help all young people better their lives and future.

Come make a change for a child this summer!

This summer quarter they will be running their first combined sports clinic/academic enrichment program. Throughout the course of summer quarter, participants will be participating in 5-6 discussion seminars that will cover how to mentor youth for sports and education. For the remaining four weeks of the quarter, students will participate in teaching a curriculum and helping kids with sports clinics.
