Woman of Distinction Scholarship – Deadline: October 8 2011

The Woman of Distinction Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded on a one-time basis to an incoming minority freshman woman that demonstrates a strong connection to community service and academic excellence, two key principles of Sigma Lambda Gamma. The award amount is $750 to be used for tuition purposes and/or books. To qualify for the award, the applicant must be entering the University of Washington as a freshman for autumn quarter of 2011. Each applicant will be evaluated based on both their academic success and their established commitment to community service. The award will be presented at the annual UW Stroll Competition on October 22nd, 2011 and applicants are highly encouraged to attend.

General Instructions

The following must be included in the application:

  • Completed application form
  • Personal essay
  • Resume (Name; Contact info; Employment experience; Schools attended/attending; Leadership, awards, and honors; Extra-curricular activities; Community Service (include hours); Academic programs; Hobbies)
  • A sealed official high school transcript
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or community leader that can
    account for the applicant’s outstanding commitment to their community (not parents, family
    members or peer friends). The letter must either be sent separately by the recommender or
    be sealed with their signature across the seal.
