What is PreMat?

Premat is the Prematriculation Program. Students who will be matriculating to UWSOM/UWSOD in the fall may apply to attend the Prematriculation program, which takes place that summer. It is a five week program during which students complete an intensive Histology review, then take a qualifying exam. Those passing the exam have the Histology requirement waived for the fall quarter.

When is PreMat?

PreMat dates are June 22 - July 28, 2007.

Who is PreMat?

A group of about 18 entering medical and dental students take PreMat. PreMat is sponsored and run by the University of Washington School of Medicine and School of Dentistry Office of Multicultural Affairs.

Where is PreMat?

PreMat takes place at the Magnusson Health Sciences Center on the University of Washington campus.

How is PreMat?

Premat is a full-time five week program. In addition to Histology, students receive workshops on study skills, research, preceptorships, and surviving medical/dental school.

Why take PreMat?

Those testing out of Histology in the summer don't have Histology in their busy fall schedule. Also, study groups that form during the summer tend to continue through medical/dental school. A nice advantage!
