The Division of Oncology's work bridges the worlds of basic science, clinical diagnosis, and the treatment of cancer. Our clinics cover each cancer type; have a strong focus in clinical trials of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Our work is supported by a portfolio of peer-reviewed grants, industry sponsored projects, and research endowments.

Our faculty include physicians and scientists who work on all forms of cancer and who are part of a larger community of scientists at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Our Fellowship Training Program in Hematology/Oncology is training the next generation of leaders in the field of lab and clinical research.

U.S. News & World Report and medical experts have ranked the University of Washington Medical Center 11th best hospital in the country. The cancer program was rated #6. The University of Washington Medical Center has the best cancer program west of the Mississippi River. The University of Washington Medical Center trails (1) University of Texas, MD Anderson, (2) Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, (3) Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, (4) Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, (5) Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston.

U.S. News began rankings in 1990. Of the 5,462 hospitals considered for this year's survey, just 173 scored high enough to be ranked in any specialty area. The University of Washington Medical Center was among only 18 hospitals were to the 2007 Honor Roll of hospitals demonstrating exceptional breadth of excellence.
