Two of our students (Nicholas C Lewis and Marcus Lew) along with some faculty have been fabricating RepRap Mendels this quarter.  In a university term (about ten weeks), they have managed to get three Mendels built and running.  Wow!

In a post quarter meeting, we predict that we could fabricate about one Mendel a week with a slightly larger team of players.   We coined the concept of  our lab becoming a “Rep Rap Breeding Center”.  Nick has taken that idea to the web with his RepRapBreeding blog.

As an engineering faculty, it’s really exciting to finally work with a design/development platform that allows students to fabricate and own an additive manufacturing system.

Are UW employees allowed to contribute or participate?

Yes, you can donate to WOOF as it’s an RSO. To donate specifically to the 3D4D project, it’s going to be a few weeks to get something businessy set up.
