Thanks to the generosity of the ME Department, and the recommendation of one Mark Ganter, our student shop hopped on the 3D printer bandwagon this past summer with the purchase of four FlashForge Creator-X Hobby printers.  To fit the space better, I immediately removed all of the spool mounts from the backs of the units, and mounted them to the wall below the shelf they sit on.  Why you would install the spool on the back where they are a total pain to get at is beyond me.

I have to say, so far I am impressed.  Our lowest hour printer is sitting somewhere around 375 hours of print time, with our old timer currently around 500 or so.  Much of that time has been in successful, un-attended, overnight builds.

25 hour ABS build

One of 6 of these parts we printed. About 25 hours each, all without failure.

A very busy night! And a very poor quality photo.  Sorry about that.

Tt took Makerware almost two hours to slice these tightly nested PLA parts. Printing took much longer.

Not bad, eh?
