As your schedule indicates, ophthalmology surgeries occur Monday mornings. On the first day of your rotation, please report to your scheduled site. On the second Monday of your rotation, please arrive at Harborview with suffficient time to change from your street clothes to scrubs (provided in the O.R.) and attend the 7:45 AM surgery. The surgical dressing room is located on the ground floor of the North Wing.

Thursday Morning Conferences
(7:00 AM to 10:30 AM) are devoted to special classes and sessions in the Ophthalmology Conference Room (BB-824) at the University of Washington. Following the Conferences, Grand Rounds are held from 10:45 AM to 12:15 PM. Please refer to the specific schedules for more detailed
information.

In order to participate more fully in our clinic, you should familiarize yourself with certain ophthalmologic procedures:
  1. Patient History: Ask about previous eye problems such as glaucoma, trauma, surgery, or prescription glasses. Determine if the patient is currently taking any medications.

  2. Examination: Check visual acuity both near and far; evaluate eyelids and pupils; do confrontation visual fields; check for phorias and tropias.

  3. Equipment: You should become familiar with: the use of biomicroscopy (slit lamp examination); checking previous glasses' Rx on lensometer; the use of the Humphrey automated visual field machine.
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to call the clinic at (206) 731-3204.

Once again, welcome to Harborview!

Arash Jian-Amadi , MD
