Frequently-asked Questions for Ophthalmology Clerkships

The following questions are routinely received by the Ophthalmology Clerkship Coordinator:

  • DO YOU HAVE ANY OPENINGS DURING CERTAIN DATES?

This information is best answered via email. Please email the Ophthalmology Clerkship Coordinator for specific dates and openings. You are reminded that because of the nature of scheduling, you should be flexible in getting any opening that becomes available to you.

  • AFTER I TURN IN THE APPLICATION, HOW LONG WILL IT BE BEFORE I HEAR BACK?

Academic Affairs processes all applications. Upon completion of processing, the Clerkship Coordinator in Ophthalmology is then notified by the Academic Affairs Office. Because of the volume of requests for our Ophthalmology electives, the applications are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Academic Affairs for more information.s

  • HOW ACCESSIBLE ARE THE DIFFERENT HOSPITAL SITES TO AND FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON?

The University of Washington has a convenient shuttle bus service, the Health Sciences Express, that will transport you to the various sites, with one exception. Group Health Cooperative (GHC) is not included in the HSE route, but it is only a 15-minute bus trip via the City bus.
The average distance between hospitals is 20 minutes; Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center is less than 10 minutes away.

For additional information regarding clerkships, please contact Dorrie Quirante, the Ophthalmology Clerkship Coordinator.
