Elective Scheduling Guidelines:
Abridged Version

Registration and Scheduling: (206) 543-5560
Office of Student Affairs: Room A-300 Health Sci Bldg

The following is a list of key scheduling policies. Please consult your Elective Schedule Handbook 2001-2002 for a complete presentation of all policies and other essential registration and scheduling information.
  • Clinical Schedule Change Appointments: The registration staff is available to make changes to clinical schedules Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The Registrar is available to make changees to clinical schedules on Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. These 15-minute appointments are drop-in or call-in, if the student is out of town, and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Because scheduling involves a number of choices, it is to the student's advantage to personally come in for the appointment if at all possible.

  • Change appointments are limited to no more than two per quarter unless there are extenuating circumstances which mandate extending this limit.

  • To add or drop a clerkship, there must be at least 6 weeks between the time of the change appointment and the beginning of the relevant clerklship.

  • To drop a WWAMI site or Medicine Subinternship, another UW student must replace the student wishing to drop at the WWAMI site or Medicine subinternship. Prior to any such drop, permission must be received from the relevant department and the Registrar. This includes students wishing to move from one WWAMI site to another. The housing requirements of students swapping sites must be similar so that housing is not a problem.

  • Rehabilitation Medicine requires that adds and drops of their clerkships be arranged at least one full month prior to the beginning of the quarter in which the clerkship occurs.

  • Spring Quarter Ophthalmology or Dermatology Clerkship may not be dropped.

  • If emergency situations occur which necessitate sudden schedule changes, Constance Lamb should be contacted immediuately. If a student must miss time during a scheduled clerkship, Constance Lamb should be contacted immediately.

  • Students wishing to take clerkships outside the School's scheduled courses must contact Trudy Furberry at least three months prior to the beginning of the clerkship. This includes courses in the WWAMI area which are covered in the departmental generic 699 number series.

  • Students should not expect to take time off from courses for residency interviews. Keeping in mind the graduation requirements, especially the 48 clinical elective credits, fourth-year students should schedule time off from late November through mid-January for residency interviews.
