HONORS REQUIREMENTS

To Be Considered for an Honors Grade, You Must Submit a Typewritten Paper:
  • of four or more pages (excluding references);

  • single-spaced;

  • on any topic related to the eye and visual system;

  • due 4 weeks after the last day of your ophthalmology clerkship.
Before Making a Final Decision on Your Topic:
  • Discuss topic ideas with your clerkship attending or resident at the end of your first week;

  • Contact Dr. James L. Kinyoun, Clerkship Program Director, at (206) 543-7687 if you need further advice.
If You Decide to Complete an Honors Paper:
  • When you take your Clerkship quiz, notify the Clerkship Secretary that you plan to submit an Honors Paper.

    Make three copies of your paper, with your name, current address, and current phone number (including area code) on each copy.

  • Deliver three copies to Room RR -801 or mail them to:

Faculty Members Will Review and Evaluate Your Paper:
  • If all reviewers recommend your paper for Honors, you will receive an honors grade for your ophthalmology clerkship.

  • If the reviewers do not recommend your paper for Honors, you will have the option of revising it under a faculty member's guidance and resubmitting it.

  • Note: Your grade form will not be completed until your paper has been evaluated.
For Students Doing More than One Ophthalmology Clerkship:
  • To receive an honors grade for two clerkships, you may do an 8-page (excluding references), single-spaced, in-depth paper on an approved topic.
