Benefits for Resident Physicians

Salary levels are established annually by the President and Board of Regents of the University of Washington. The current annual residency stipend at all affiliated hospitals (effective July 1, 2007) is:

  R-1  $42,132
  R-2  $ 44,256
  R-3  $ 46,740
  R-4  $ 49,284
  R-5  $ 51,780
  R-6  $ 54,264
  R-7  $ 56,796
  R-8  $ 59,268

Resident physicians are included under the umbrella of the malpractice coverage of the University of Washington for any professional activity sanctioned by the University of Washington. Social Security benefits and group medical/dental insurance are provided.

Vacation time is three weeks each academic year (July-June) and is noncumulative. Sick leave is accrued at the rate of one working day for each month of completed service. There is no limitation as to the amount of sick leave that may be accrued.

Professional leave is granted for annual meetings of the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and for some meetings of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
