The Bone and Joint Surgery Center is an outpatient clinic located at University of Washington Medical Center-Roosevelt on Roosevelt Way N.E. in Seattle. The clinic provides complete health care and preventive treatment for a variety of bone and joint problems, including complex fractures and bone tumors.

The center has highly trained physicians and surgeons from the UW School of Medicine's Department of Orthopedics, as well as specialists from the UW Departments of Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Division of Rheumatology. Our doctors are experts in such fields as tumors, bone transplantation, joint replacement, spine and lower back problems, hand surgery, arthritis, and foot and ankle treatment.

Harborview provides numerous orthopedic services including skeletal realignments and stabilizations using closed, percutaneous, external, and internal fixation techniques. Similarly, Harborview treats associated soft tissue injuries using a variety of methods.

As a Level I adult and pediatric trauma center, Harborview cares for some of the most complex orthopedic injuries in the Pacific Northwest. Services include complex pelvic and acetabular fractures, a limb viability service for individuals with amputations, a sports medicine program, as well as a hand clinic. The Sigvard T. Hansen Foot and Ankle Institute provides consultation and surgical procedures for complex foot and ankle reconstruction including genetic anomalies and traumatic injury. A podiatry service is also available through the institute. A complex spine service is offered in conjunction with Harborview's department of Neurological Surgery. This service treats injuries that result in severe damage to the spinal column, which often creates, compressed nerves, painful disc degeneration or abnormal movement and alignment of the spinal column.

About this Clinic
Patients with complex spine problems, from sports injuries to adult scoliosis, receive diagnosis, surgery and rehabilitation from highly trained spine specialists at the UW Medicine Sports and Spine Center at Harborview. Comprehensive services include non-surgical and surgical treatment of disorders and diseases of the spine.


Using a multidisciplinary approach, the center offers patients and their referring physicians expertise in:

Bus Directions
Several bus routes of King County Metro Transit provide service to the Ninth and Jefferson Building. Use Metro's Trip Planner to learn which buses can get you there.

Accessibility Information: Harborview Medical Center and the Patricia Steel Building offer ramps at their main entrances. The Norm Maleng and Ninth and Jefferson buildings enable easy access for all visitors. Security personnel also are available to help people enter and leave facilities.

Driving Directions
The Ninth & Jefferson Building (NJB) is adjacent to Harborview Medical Center (see map). NJB's main walk-in entrance is on Jefferson Street, just east of Ninth Avenue.

From Interstate 5:
  • Exit at James Street (#165A) in downtown Seattle. 
  • Turn up the hill (east) onto James.
  • Turn right onto Terry Avenue, then access the building's parking garage on the right.
