As with many medical diseases, prevention of hearing loss may ultimately prove to be more effective than treatment. I am interested in developing strategies to halt hearing loss in its early stages by preventing the death of hair cells in the inner ear. My research thus revolves around understanding mechanisms of hair cell injury, and developing medical treatments for the prevention of ototoxic injury.
