Closing Remarks
Dear Alumni and Friends:
The end of our academic year is a time for celebrating the accomplishments of department members and graduates. We have had a highly productive year even in this time of transition and I offer the following highlights.
University Washington's School of Medicine
The UW School of Medicine continues among the top ten medical schools according to the US World & News Report. We are delighted with the creation of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation based on a $105 M contribution from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Christopher Murray was recently recruited from Harvard to assume Directorship of this exciting program. Last year the Department of Global Health was created, which is also supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This year Dr. King Holmes accepted Chairmanship of the department based in both the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health.
NIH Research Funding Report – UW World & News Report –
The NIH Research Funding Report identified the University of Washington as second only to Harvard in total dollars of NIH grants.
