Program Funding:
Childcare Assistance Means Parents In School (CCAMPIS)
Childcare assistance is now available for all eligible part-time students. The financial assistance is funded through a grant from the US Department of Education, which may be renewed through September 2005.
Undergraduates:
The amounts of assistance are based on predetermined monthly limits for various
age groups. The grant will subsidize students taking 3-11 credits within any
given quarter. Your subsidy amount will be determined by the number of credits
for which you are registered. Full-time students participating in the Childcare
Assistance Program receive 60% of the allowable monthly cost. The percentages
below for part-time students are pro-rated according to the number of credits
taken in comparison to a full-time load (12 credits and above). The grant funding
will pay a percentage of your costs (rounded to the nearest dollar), OR the
Maximum allocation, whichever is less. Allocations for 2005 are:

The remaining balance for all age groups must be covered by personal resources or other agencies, such as Department of Social and Health Services or the Seattle Milk Fund. This funding does not pay for registration, meals, field trips, diapers, fines or any other costs that go beyond the basic fee. The program will not pay for kindergarten charges or tuition.

Three standard calendar months are used to equate the award period and do not correspond exactly with the academic quarters. Each month is calculated from the first to the last day of the month. The CCAMPIS Grant provides funding for the full three-month period regardless of the last day of the academic quarter. Childcare assistance checks, made payable to the childcare provider, are distributed to student-parents at the beginning of each three-month period provided the necessary paperwork has been properly complete and turned in.
Autumn-October, November &
December
Winter-January, February & March
Spring-April, May & June
Summer-July, August & September
The student-parent must be the legal and physical custodial parent of the children, and must use DSHS-licensed care providers not related by blood or marriage. There is only one exception to licensed childcare. Before- and after-school programs sponsored by the Schools or by the Parks Department are allowed for children 5-12 years of age.
Part-time childcare assistance may be applied for on an annual/quarterly basis. To apply for the part-time grant funding, you will need to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal processor and a Childcare Request Application to the Childcare Assistance Office. Copies of the application are available in the Childcare Assistance Office in Room 482 Schmitz Hall, 206-543-1041 and in the Work/Life Resource Center in Room 132 of the Brooklyn Building at 4045 Brooklyn Ave. NE., 206-543-6963. Or on-line at http://depts.washington.edu/ovpsa/childcare/ .
These funds are available through the US Department of Education CCAMPIS grant and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis depending upon need and income eligibility.
