The symposium focused on PhD research in transportation science and technology. Twenty-five PhD students had the opportunity to learn about their peers\u2019 research in the areas of active traffic control, transportation data modeling, and autonomous\/connected vehicle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_1511b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3783\" src=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_1511b.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1511b\" width=\"200\" height=\"147\" srcset=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_1511b.jpg 3486w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_1511b-300x221.jpg 300w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_1511b-768x566.jpg 768w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_1511b-1024x754.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_1511b-97x71.jpg 97w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>UW\u2019s Civil and Environmental Engineering Chair, Dr. Greg Miller, began the event by welcoming everyone to the University of Washington. This was followed by welcomes from Dr. Yinhai Wang and Tongji Professor, Dr. Bing Wu. After two brief keynote speeches by PacTrans associate director of education, Dr. Anne Vernez-Moudon, and Tongji professor, Dr. Lun Zhang, the professors turned it over to the student, who spent the next day and a half presenting their research and asking\/commenting on eachothers\u2019 work.<\/p>\n<p>A total of sixteen of the PhD participants were offered the opportunity to spend about twenty minutes presenting their work. Each presentation was followed by about ten minutes of question and answer.
