{"id":5380,"date":"2019-02-22T16:32:51","date_gmt":"2019-02-23T00:32:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/?p=5380"},"modified":"2019-02-23T09:52:38","modified_gmt":"2019-02-23T17:52:38","slug":"pactrans-fellow-alumni-spotlight-rich-lee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/pactrans-fellow-alumni-spotlight-rich-lee\/","title":{"rendered":"PacTrans Fellow Alumni Spotlight: Rich Lee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5381 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/rich_lee_Fellow3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"285\" srcset=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/rich_lee_Fellow3.jpg 210w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/rich_lee_Fellow3-71x97.jpg 71w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every year, PacTrans participates in a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/students\/pactrans-fellows\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fellowship program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and offers enough funding to cover the tuition needed to receive a master\u2019s degree related to transportation to talented students who show great potential to succeed in the field. <\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants of our program have the opportunity to combine the knowledge they gain in a classroom setting and the experiences they are given working with topics circulating around transportation industries. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rich Lee is a UW alum and PacTrans fellow from 2015-2016. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was awesome to be a part of a program that provided so many opportunities and support for research while at the same time setting me up with relevant experience to enter the professional working world,\u201d Lee said in an email.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lee previously worked as a Data Analyst for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsdot.wa.gov\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WSDOT\u2019s Public Transportation Division<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While there, he was responsible for developing Python scripts and tools for reporting and analysis, conducting demographic and transit accessibility analyses, and managing the division\u2019s geographic information systems (GIS) datasets. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through WSDOT, Lee was able to assist on a research project funded by PacTrans focusing on shared mobility. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI guess I can\u2019t escape PacTrans!\u201d Lee said in an email. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most recently, Lee was offered and has accepted a position as a Transportation Analyst with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/depts\/transportation\/metro.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King County Metro<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lee\u2019s fellowship with us helped him in a position as a research assistant for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tti.tamu.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas A&amp;M Transportation Institute<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2014.
