The presentation was titled, <em>Building Partnership Between Transit Agency and Shared Mobility Company: Incentivizing App-Based Carpooling in the Seattle Region<\/em> , and was based on a 2018 PacTrans-funded a research project titled, <em>Examining the Effects of King County Metro Carpool Incentive Fund<\/em>, lead by Qing Shen, a professor of Urban Design and Planning at the University of Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>In this work, Dr. Shen, along with his PhD student Yiyuan Wang, investigated data from over 200,000 Scoop trips and paired this data with survey responses from commuters to measure the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.takescoop.com\/resources\/carpooling-investment-pays-off#\">King County Metro\u2019s Carpooling Incentive Fund<\/a>\u2019s impact. The main highlights in their analysis indicate that Scoop usage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Was highly adopted by eligible commuters<\/li><li>Significantly decreased SOV trips, and<\/li><li>Reduced commuter VMT during the pilot period<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Specifically, the number of Scoop trips rose from 24,268 in the first month to 53,239 in the fifth month, an average growth of 17% month-over-month.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To find out more about the PacTrans-funded project, see its project profile page on the PacTrans website <a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pactrans\/research\/projects\/examining-the-effects-of-king-county-metro-carpool-incentive-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"here (opens in a new tab)\">here<\/a>.
