Palliative Care Clinician - UW Family Medicine
The University of Washington Department of Family Medicine seeks a Full-Time Palliative Care Clinician with their primary board in Family Medicine. The applicant will initially be considered for an Acting Assistant Professor, while faculty of higher rank are encouraged to apply for this Full-Time - non-Tenured faculty position within the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington Family Medicine. End-of-life Care Research Program
The nurse who qualifies for this position will be one of two “Communication Facilitators” who are part of a federally funded multi-site randomized trial of an intervention to improve care for patients with serious illness. She/he/they will support, model and teach communication strategies that enable patients with critical illness and their families to secure care in line with patients’ goals of care over a 3-month period, beginning with an ICU hospitalization at one of the UW Medicine hospitals (UWMC-Montlake, Harborview Medical Center, UWMC-Northwest, Valley Medical Center) and then across various transitions in care (e.g., rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home care). Facilitators will accurately explain clinical information and provide emotional support, skill-building, advocacy and mediation as needed to families and patients enrolled in the intervention. Contact with patients, families and clinicians may either be in-person or by phone/video call or conference, depending on patient/family/clinician accessibility and needs. Facilitators have an expected case load of 20 patients/month.
· Bachelor's degree in Nursing with 4-5 years relevant experience.
· Experience and comfort working with patients with serious, life-limiting diseases and their families
· Strong clinical assessment skills
· Clinical experience in palliative care, case management or related field
· Current nursing license to practice
· Able to travel to UW Medicine clinical sites, community sites where care is provided
· Ability to relate well to a diverse, multidisciplinary team of investigators, investigative staff, management teams, and health care providers from multiple organizations
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and written and interpersonal communication skills
· Proficiency in MS Office programs, particularly Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook
· Master's Degree in Nursing
· ICU experience; experience in outpatient settings
· Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to take on all levels of tasks in the development of research projects, from administrative duties to study design.
SALARY: commensurate with experience and education
