The laboratory seeks to understand how cell adhesion via integrin adhesion receptors to basement membrane ligands contributes to: (1) the structural integrity of the epidermal/dermal junction; (2) the regulation of proliferation and differentiation of the basal cells; and (3) the molecular basis of pathological disorders in cell adhesion that contribute to malignant invasion and inherited blistering disorders.
