Research interests include the inter-relationships among obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. Increasingly, the role of inflammation and inflammatory cells as potential links among these disease states is being addressed. Specifically, areas of focus include the role of macrophage accumulation in adipose tissue, the potential relationship of their accumulation to insulin resistance, and how accumulation in adipose tissue relates to accumulation in the artery wall.
