Current work includes studies of the mechanisms of attachment and entry of Chlamydia into host cells, identification and characterization of binding ligands and receptors, characterization of chlamydial proteins and their function, and development of laboratory diagnostic methods and vaccine candidates for prevention of chlamydial infections. Dr. Kuo is also involved in animal model experiments with mice to investigate the immunopathogenesis of Chlamydia pneumoniae infection and the role of Chlamydia pneumoniae in atherosclerosis.
