Report on Emotional and Behavioral Disorders in Youth
The Evidence Based Practices Institute at the Division of Public Behavioral Health and Justice Policy is the sponsor of Report on Emotional & Behavioral Disorders in Youth (EBDY), a quarterly journal published by Civic Research Institute, Inc. EBDY is edited by Eric J. Bruns, Ph.D., and Eric W. Trupin, Ph.D.
EBDY highlights innovative research and effective approaches and programs to preventing and treating emotional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents. Because a range of stress factors, such as exposure to violence, abuse, neglect, and poverty, increase the probability of these problems in youth, the Report features research findings and programs that document reductions in these stress factors for youth as well as those that directly decrease emotional and behavioral problems. Articles selected for publication in EBDY are those that:
- Bridge research findings and the field, with an emphasis on empirically supported and user friendly approaches to addressing problems and build competencies and assets in youth.
- Provide active analysis of constructs that have delimited child mental health efforts (e.g., providing services in inaccessible locations) and identification of promising directions for the field (e.g., school-based programs).
- Discuss quality assurance and evaluation as key aspects of programs to ensure effectiveness and viability.
- Focus on the cultural and developmental sensitivity of approaches.
- Emphasize family and stakeholder involvement in care, and interdisciplinary approaches to address problems.
- Focus on policy developments and gaps to reform and improve children’s mental health services at local, state and federal levels.
The goal of EBDY is to provide user-friendly information on the latest research findings and developments in the field on addressing emotional and behavioral problems in youth, and to serve as a bridge between child mental health researchers and practitioners, and to serve as a forum for the review and discussion of policies and programs relevant to the reform and improvement of systems of mental health care for youth.
