Summer Undergraduate Research Program

Description

The goal of our Summer Research Program is to provide rising undergraduate seniors with research training and to expose them to the graduate student lifestyle. During this 10 week period the student will participate in cutting-edge research and be fully integrated into the Department of Physiology & Biophysics (PBIO).

Students will also attend a weekly journal club run by graduate students in the PBIO department. This club will be designed to teach critical evaluation of published papers and to provide information and instruction on the graduate school application process, career opportunities in the biomedical sciences and current ethical issues in research.

Dates

The Summer 2006 session will run from June 16 - August 11.

Stipend

The Department will provide students with a $3000 stipend to cover living expenses during the 10 week period for which they are in Seattle.

Housing

The Department will pay for all of the students in the program to stay on the University of Washington campus. Your room will be equipped with twin beds, local access telephone with voicemail, and bath facilities. Bedding and towels are also provided. A $10/day food allowance that can be used at any of the eateries on campus will also be included. The dorms are within walking distance of the departmental research labs, UW athletic facilities and a shopping center.

Tuition

Students will be required to enroll for Summer Quarter at the University of Washington for two credits of PBIO 499, Undergraduate Research and will be required to pay tuition for the two credits. Students will also be expected to pay for their transportation to Seattle, health insurance (required before can enroll in the program), parking and any registration fees.
