Examining neural circuits mediating social behaviors and motor learning using the CANE technology

Fan Wang, Ph.D.Associate Professor,
Department of Neurology
Duke University

Short summary:
We developed a new technology called CANE for capturing activated neuronal ensembles to dissect the functions and connectivity of behaviorally activated neurons. Using CANE in combination with optogenetics and imaging, we delineated a hypothalamic social fear circuit, and examined the cortical circuit underlying skilled motor learning.
