Department of Molecular Physiology & Biophysics is seeking to recruit a Cell Biologist/Biophysicist at the Assistant Professor level on the tenure-track, although Associate and Full Professor candidates will be considered. The candidate will complement existing expertise in molecular biology, single molecule biophysics, and structural biology. Also will be expected to develop an independent, extramurally funded research program in cell biology with emphasis on mechanisms by which the cytoskeleton and molecular motors govern cellular function (e.g. cell signaling, intracellular transport, and cell division) which may be altered in human cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Must be willing to team-teach mammalian physiology in a medical and graduate school setting. Start-up funds will be competitive, and access provided to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows through departmental training grants. The Faculty of Medicine, through a partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI), the Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology, and Clinical Neurosciences, and the Calgary Stroke Program, at the University of Calgary, invite applications for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut Chair in Stroke Research. The successful candidate will be an MD, PhD or MD/PhD eligible for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor. The preferred applicant will have an established tract record in the area of cerebral blood flow and vascular biology research, proven leadership in the field of extensive expertise in knowledge creation and application. The individual will enhance research capacity in stroke research at the Faculty of Medicine, bridging basic neurosciences with clinical applications. The candidate will further translational research through collaboration with the Calgary Stroke Program and the Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology and Clinical Neurosciences, and will promote multidisciplinary collaborations with basic scientists within the HBI. The Chair holder will be offered the proceeds of the Chair endowment on an annual basis, a generous start up package and laboratory space, a tenure-track position with a primary appointment in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, and full membership within the HBI.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE
A postdoctoral position is available in the Cellular Neurophysiology Laboratory located at the Harborview Medical Center. They are interested in the properties of voltage-gated ion channels in the dendrites of hippocampal neurons and how they are altered during the development of epilepsy in animal models. Techniques employed include visualized dendritic patch clamp electrophysiology; EEG recording i rodent models of epilepsy; and biochemical analysis of phosphoylation signalling pathways. Prior electrophysiology experience is preferred, but is not essential. Biochemistry experience is a plus. Starting date preferably in July 2010.
