PBIO SEMINAR SERIES

Dissecting the Mechanics of Cell Division Using Multimode-Microsurgery

Wednesday - April 16, 2008
07-08 SEMINAR SERIES

Dahong Zhang

Associate Professor of Zoology Oregon State University
Speaker's website

Host: Chip Asbury

Dahong Zhang is looking at how chromosomes are accurately distributed into the daughter cells. He combines laser microbeam ablation with microneedle manipulation to remodel chromosomes, spindles, and cells so as to dissect the mechanics of chromosome distribution and contractile ring assembly. His goal is to help define the mechanisms by which chromosomes accurately move to the spindle equator and segregate to the poles. He also focuses on how cells specify a particular division plane for cleavage
