Transmission at excitatory synapses is largely mediated by action on AMPA-type glutamate receptors. Recent studies have shown that several forms of synaptic plasticity act by modulating the number of AMPA receptors at synapses. I will discuss our studies characterizing synaptic trafficking of AMPA receptors in health and disease states.
