Research Interests:
Molecular mechanisms of inhibition interactions based on identification of P - 450 isozymes catalyzing the metabolism of old and new antiepileptic drugs. Prediction of drug interactions using in vitro - in vivo correlations.


 

Biography:
Dr. Levy received his bachelor's degree in pharmacy in 1965 from the University of Paris, France, and completed his doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco in 1970. Dr. Levy has served as chair of the Department of Pharmaceutics at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in Seattle, Washington, since 1980 and also holds a University appointment as professor of neurological surgery. In addition to teaching pharmaceutical students and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, he has published more than 250 articles and co-edited several books including Metabolism and Antiepileptic Drugs (1984); Idiosyncratic Reactions to Valproate: Clinical Risk Patterns and Mechanisms of Toxicity (1991); Metabolic Drug Interactions (2000); and Antiepileptic Drugs (1995), a new edition (5th) of which appeared in 2001. Dr. Levy developed and directs the Metabolism and Transport Drug Interaction Database which has become a scientific tool for the pharmaceutical industry throughout the world (http://www.druginteractioninfo.org/)
