state) and effects (therapeutic and toxic) of alkylating agents and reactive
intermediates.
Biography:
John Slattery is Adjunct Professor of Pharmaceutics. John returned to the UW in 2005. He is now Professor of Pharmacology
and Medicine and Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Education in the UW School of Medicine. He was a founding member of the department in 1980. He left the University of Washington in 2003 to become Dean of Graduate Studies at Indiana University, where he also holds appointments as Professor of Medicine, Biology, Medical Sciences, and Pharmacology and Toxicology on the Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses. He received a PhD in pharmaceutics from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1978, and was first appointed at the University of Washington in 1979.
John is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and is a member of other professional scientific societies. He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and AAPS Pharm Sci. He has served as advisor or consultant to US and Canadian research funding agencies as a grant reviewer (NIH, MRC) and to several pharmaceutical companies. The NIH funds the large majority of his research, with a small and variable fraction supported by pharmaceutical companies.
