Diagnosis
To receive a diagnosis of autism, a child must show significant delays or disordered development in the areas of social interaction and communication and must also show abnormalities in the areas of ritualistic and repetitive behaviors3. A diagnosis of
autism should be given by a professional with expertise in autism.
That professional could be a psychologist, psychiatrist,
developmental pediatrician or neurologist.
