Systems for Behavior Intervention

Along with a motivational system, having a system for addressing challenging behavior is essential. As stated above, children with ASD may engage in challenging behaviors as a means to communicate. When attempting to teach an appropriate replacement behavior for a challenging behavior, it is important to be systematic. A systematic approach to behavior intervention includes completing a functional assessment, developing and implementing a behavior support plan, and collecting data. Having a systematic approach to dealing with behavior that interferes with learning means that instructional time can be used more efficiently.
