Achieving Consistency across Environments

The nature of ASD requires a consistent environment to optimize the educational process for the child. For example, the generalization of newly acquired skills is often difficult for children with ASD. If a skill taught in an education program is to be used in home and community environments, it is important to include these home and community environments in the planning and teaching process, and thus parents must be involved. In addition, educating families on utilizing teaching strategies to assist their child in learning new behaviors can both provide consistency across environments and can be very empowering to a family as they learn how to teach and assist their child.
