PEARLS Training

Brochure for September 24-25, 2009 PEARLS Training

Thank you for your interest in the PEARLS Training.

The three-day PEARLS training includes a dynamic balance of didactic instruction, demonstration sessions, group discussion, practice exercises, and a hands-on introduction to the PEARLS Toolkit (included in the training fee).

The PEARLS training is delivered by experts who developed PEARLS and who have implemented the program successfully in real-world settings. After completing the three-day training, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to implement a successful PEARLS program.

The next PEARLS training will be in Seattle on Sept. 24-25, at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center, 2211 Alaskan Way, Pier 66, Seattle, WA 98121.

Training Objectives

After completing the PEARLS three-day training program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify depression among older adults through scientifically validated instruments
  • Effectively assess depressed older adults and recommend steps to improve their mental health and overall quality of life
  • Recognize the psychosocial needs and stressors of older adults with depression
  • Describe key elements of this comprehensive, multi-component depression management program
  • Review the evidence base supporting the effectiveness of the PEARLS treatment program
  • Demonstrate practical skills, such as problem-solving treatment and behavioral activation, for treating depression in community-dwelling older adults
  • Understand the key elements and personnel required to effectively implement PEARLS in their communities.

Professional Credit

This training is sponsored by the University of Washington Social Work Continuing Education Department, which will give 14.5 contact hours CEU) for completion of the course.
