Grading Policy for the Pediatric Basic Clerkship (PEDS 665)

Basis for Grades in the Pediatric Clerkship

  1. Evaluation of clinical performance by faculty and residents;
  2. Performance on a final examination.
  3. Additional course requirements (ED evals, Mini-CEX, ethics essay, H&P)

Requirements for Grades of "Pass", "High Pass" and "Honors"

  1. To earn a grade of "Pass" a student must:
    a. receive a grade of "Pass" on clinical performance from a majority of evaluators;
    b. pass the written examination.
  2. To earn a grade of "High Pass" a student must:
    a. receive a grade of "High Pass" on clinical performance from a majority of evaluators;
    b. earn an above average score on the written examination.
  3. To earn a grade of "Honors" a student must:
    a. receive a grade of "eligible for honors" on clinical
    performance from a majority of evaluators;
    b. earn a high score on the written examination.

Evaluations

  1. Inpatient: There is a plastic folder on the wall in your team room. Inside you will find a red folder with your name on it, filled with personalized evaluation forms. During your inpatient section, it is your responsibility to hand these forms out to the faculty and residents with whom you work. The evaluator will return the forms to the Medical Student Office.
  2. Outpatient: Your outpatient clinic will use the same evaluation form but you do not need to hand out these evaluations; they have their own system for disseminating the forms.
