Rotation
Description
Inpatient Rotation (3 Weeks)
The focus of this part of the rotation is to exposure to the principles of inpatient
management of acutely ill children or children with chronic illnesses. The student
will function as part of an integrated team consisting of pediatric interns,
residents and attendings. The students are expected to actively participate in
the care of their patients, which includes writing daily notes, admission histories
and physicals, as well as orders (cosigned by your residents). Oral presentations
on rounds are an integral part of the learning experience. Call with the inpatient
team is every 4th night.
Outpatient
Rotation (3 Weeks)
The focus of this portion of the rotation are the principles of care for well
children, preventative medicine and outpatient management of acute illnesses.
The student will interact with a wide variety of health care professionals
including pediatric interns, residents, attendings and nurse practitioners.
The student will perform history and physicals on patients in the clinic and
present her/his findings and therapeutic plan to the clinic attending. The
student will also spend 2 days in the newborn nursery during the outpatient
rotation. Call will be in the SCH ER approximately 1 time per week.
